Comparison Nokia 5800 and Motorola Milestone

Disposing currently of Motorola Milestone under Android (cf. my good wishes) - I am going to call it "MM" by continuation for some weeks as well as since quite a lot of time of Nokia 5800 XM (Symbian S60v5 or Symbian^1 for the intimate
) I offer you to perform a quick comparison of 2 apparatus / systems. I will come back neither into the detail of Android nor into that of Symbian because it is moreover if you want to dig subject and it isn't the purpose. Also having only rudimentary needs in multimedia (photo, audio reader, etc) or surfing these aspects aren't covered. In other words, I am satisfied as much of 5800 as of the MM (fair lack the radio for this last). Autrement dit, je suis autant satisfait du 5800 que du MM (manque juste la radio pour ce dernier).

Bigger and heavier than 5800, the blockage of the MM resides for me allowable.

Interface / seizure
Interface is envisaged to be managed « in the finger » what returns the usage of an useless stiletto (the technology of the screen of the MM besides doesn't allow it - screen capacitif-).

On the MM the screen of reception has 3 shutters which they make march to achieve applications Widgets that they installed on these shutters. Certains Widgets / applications allow to add carroussels, to augment the number by abbreviated by page, etc. All applications remain accessible in a huge (according to what was installed) "holdall" / "bazaar") by drawing from above a "tongue". By drawing the bar of status downwards they have access in last event: emails reçs, SMS, etc. Toutes les applications demeurent accessible dans un immense (selon ce que l’on a installé) « fourre-tout » / » bazar ») en tirant vers le haut une « languette ». En tirant la barre de statut vers le bas on a accès aux derniers évènement : emails reçs, SMS, etc.

The bolting of the MM can hearth assured by the displacement of the finger on 9 points to draw a line which you will have chosen.

2 telephones have a virtual keyboard. On the MM, seizure is made, on the screen, without too much problem: they haven't to use the stiletto, they see what is directly typed in the zone of seizure on the screen. There isn't mode of handwritten seizure but I must say that having used Grafiti under Palm then under UIQ, this mode of seizure finds it difficult to persuade me on 5800. The MM has a sliding keyboard. I sometimes knock 2 keys at the same time but it is nevertheless practical to have a physical keyboard. To note that accentuated characters and other cedillas are away of the keyboard (AZERTY nevertheless). on n’a pas à utiliser le stylet, on voit ce que l’on tape directement dans la zone de saisie à l’écran. Il n’y a pas de mode de saisie manuscrite mais je dois dire qu’après avoir utilisé Grafiti sous Palm puis sous UIQ, ce mode de saisie a du mal à me convaincre sur le 5800. Le MM dispose d’un clavier coulissant. Il m’arrive de taper sur 2 touches à la fois mais c’est quand même pratique d’avoir un clavier physique. A noter que les caractères accentués et autres cédilles sont absents du clavier (AZERTY quand même).

MM: 480×854 pixels
5800: 360×640 pixels
I was bluffed by the definition of the MM as I had been him at his time by that of 5800: the logo of Motorola appearing to ignition could almost make believe that it is a form so much the picture is definite / fine.

Telephony and Cie
No worry to phone. The catch of call is made by making slip the finger.
To send same SMS to several persons, an application « in more » (free) is needed. Next to this, SMS is followed nativement by dialogues.

Autonomy
The autonomy of the MM is it seems to me lesser than that of 5800. She remains however completely allowable for me by staying 2G there.

Boutique
At the same time complete, practical, incorporating comments in French, that of the MM / ANDROID is "better" without difficulty than OVI in term of choice and of accessibility / ergonomics. The French-speaking community parried much more active on the side of the developers of the side Android than of the side Symbian.

In the final
From my point of view, there isn't "photo" too much, very at least for my needs. The fact of credit more than 4 shortened towards applications (I don't know if it is necessary to laugh at it or to mourn it), the synchronisation with gmail real-time, an excessive software offer (both in free and in sales and marketing person), everything pleads, today, for the MM / ANDROID even if there is a little of margin of progress on the side of the BONE and that Nokia has just offered an update implementing kinetic scrolling on 5800.

Third applications allow to improve " the rendered service " while they are « of base » given by Nokia (for example numerous SMS, dispatch of enclosures in emails or management of profiles of rings).

Applications to be signed, the management of Internet profiles, rigidity of interface are so many aspects which will have to be improved in future versions of Symbian.
